Send a Message
We need to send a strong message to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) that the Canadian longline swordfish fleet does not deserve its eco-label. Add your voice. Send the letter below to Rupert Howes, CEO of MSC. Let them know their trusted brand will lose credibility.
Your letter will also be sent into the official public comment process being overseen by Moody Marine Ltd, the company hired by the fishery to assess it against the MSC standard. Moody's March 11th report reccomended it receive the MSC eco-label.
Despite being given the label ‘sustainable’ this fishery will continue to catch endangered animals. This MSC process has mandated no changes in fishing practice to reduce that will reduce the bycatch of sensitive sharks and sea turtles. They will hit the water this year doing the same damage as usual.
Many consumers and retailers rely on the MSC blue 'check-mark' logo to verify that their fish has been sustainably caught. They expect MSC products to be helping protect our oceans, not contributing to the extinction of species.
Please add your name, e-mail address, and country of residence so this information can be added to your letter. It is important the MSC know that real people care about this certification.
Your privacy is important.
